This article analyzes aspects of the implementation of the Emergency Aid in Brazil, created to combat the health, economic and social crises brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. This benefit brought challenges for the future of permanent cash transfer programs aimed at overcoming vulnerabilities, expressing dilemmas also faced by other Latin American countries. In addition to the importance of increasing coverage and benefit amounts, two crucial aspects that have been neglected by current discussions and that have proven to be precarious in Emergency Aid are highlighted: the importance of an effective federal coordination and of a registry of beneficiaries with comprehensive information on their living conditions.
