The purpose of this study is to examine students’ attitudes andpreferences to online teaching in an ESL classroom during the Covid-19 pandemicperiod. Effective communication plays a vital role in students’ productivity andthe teacher’s role is to motivate students to participate in an online environment.Quantitative research was conducted among first year university students fromSEEU: Albanians, Macedonians and Turks, age 18-21, enrolled in intermediate andupper-intermediate English course. The results revealed that most of the universitystudents were satisfied with the online teaching and were motivated to communicateonline during the online lectures
