In the face of intensifying challenges, a major revolution is expected for the transport sector. However, it seems that primarily automobility is to be transformed. In the long-term perspective, however, it has been shown so far in such conditions that, in addition to the improvement of the dominated transport system, disruptive alternatives also stailisized and eventually led to the transformation of the transport sector. This entry applies theories mainly from innovation economics and explains the evolution of transport systems and provides a systematic pattern of expected developments. The insights are beneficial to the strategic decisions of companies or the public sector
