What is the interaction that exists between jazz and hip-hop music created by African American Muslims, and those influenced by the tenets of Islam? The aim of this study is to explore and come to a better understanding of these interactions through use of interviews, oral narratives, and testimonials with the Urbana-Champaign community, including interviews with jazz department faculty members, students in the music department, former members of the Urbana-Champaign Hip-Hop Congress, Muslims and non-Muslims, as well as people of other various backgrounds, in order to assess the existence and significance of the relationship between jazz and hip-hop music created by African American Muslims
