This research focuses on the development of an architecture that supports group engineering activities by increasing the synergy between team members engaged in common product development activities. To this end, a computer-based architecture, formed by the unification of reasoning techniques, extensions of current object-oriented database technology, and a team coordination methodology has been developed. This architecture has been implemented as a system called the Intelligent Design Environment for Engineering Automation (IDEEA).
