Antenatal care, an integral component of primary health care, is offered as a free health service for pregnant women at public health facilities. However, the death of women during pregnancy, during childbirth, or after delivery continues to be a major challenge in health care systems due to poor antenatal care uptake. The main aim of this study was to explore and describe recommendations from local stakeholders and health governance structures to promote the uptake of Basic Antenatal Care (BANC) services in the areas surrounding local clinics.
