Globalization and trade liberalization have wide-ranging effects on employment, labor security, the environment, leading to processes with uneven gender consequences. Departing from a feminist approach, this study analyzes the potential impact of the latest EU-Mercosur Agreement on gender inequality. This research conducts a qualitative case- study focusing on the Mercosur, where women face already strong structural economic inequality. It argues that the adoption of a gender mainstreaming approach is essential for promotion of an interregional trade instrument that contributes to women’s economic empowerment.
