The advancement of medical therapy that leads to the discovery of new medical treatments is indeed a blessing to human beings. However, the advancement came with certain ethical concerns involving decisions or procedures which, to a certain extent, contradicting with Islamic values and principles. Amongst the issues that emerged are related to the new diagnosis of brain death, implications of withdrawal and withholding of life support, terminal sedation in palliative care or double effect and the newly advanced medical directives.
