An influence of oxygen concentration in water on the respiration of certain echinoderms

The rate of oxygen consumption by sea urchins Strongylocentrotus nudus and S. intermedius from the Sea of Japan and S. droebachiensis from the Barents Sea, starfishes Asterias rubens and sea cucumbers Cucumaria frondosa from the Barents Sea has been measured at the fluctuation of oxygen concentration in water. The dependence of oxygen concentration in the coelomic fluid of sea urchins S. nudus and S. intermedius on охуgen concentration in water and body size has been studied. The oxygen consumption by C. frondosa and A. rubens does not depend on oxygen concentration in water when the temperature is low, but it does when the temperature increases. The dependence of oxygen consumption by sea urchins on oxygen concentration in water has not been found when oxygen concentration in water is higher than «the initial limited level». The influence of oxygen concentration in water, within the range of 1.5-11 ml O2I-1, and body size on oxygen concentration in the coelomic fluid of S. nudus and S. intermedius has not been found as well.У морских ежей Strongylocentrotus nudus, S. intermedius из Японского и S. droebachiensis из Баренцева моря, у морской звезды Asterias rubens и голотурии Cucumaria frondosa из Баренцева моря исследована скорость потребления кислорода в зависимости от его концентрации в среде.
