The structure of a community of diatom algae of hard substrata in the upper intertidal zone of Vostok Bay, the Sea of Japan

The annual dynamics of species composition, density, biomass, the size of cells, indices of species diversity, evenness, similarity and change in biomass with depth was investigated in diatom algae of hard substrata in Vostok Bay, the Sea of Japan. The community of diatoms has the most complex structure in winter and summer, and it is markedly simplified in spring and autumn. Shannon’s index of species diversity is maximal in winter (3.75) and minimal in autumn (1.04) at a depth of 10 m. The index of evenness varies between 0.27 and 0.96 The similarity index in species inhabiting depths of 0.5 to 5-10 m does not exceed 50%, and between 5 and 10 m it is considerably greater (75%). Biomass per metre of depth per season decreases, on an average, by 7.5%. The microalgae community is characterized by the dominance of organisms measuring 10 to 40 μm. From winter to summer and autumn, the proportion of large cells in the microphytobenthos of the bay decreases. The seasonal dynamics of development of microalgae is determined by the dynamics of hydrological and hydrochemical conditions in the coastal zone of the sea.Исследована годовая динамика видового состава, плотности, биомассы, размера клеток, индексов видового разнообразия, выровненности, сходства и изменения биомассы с глубиной диатомовых водорослей твердых грунтов зал. Восток Японского моря. Сообщество диатомовых водорослей имеет наиболее сложную структуру зимой и летом, а весной и осенью заметно упрощается. Индекс видового разнообразия достигает максимума зимой (3,75) , минимума — осенью (1,04) на глубине 10 м. Коэффициент выровненности видов варьирует в пределах 0,27-0,96. Индекс сходства видов, обитающих на глубинах 0,5 и 5-10 м, не превышает 50%, а у видов на глубинах 5 и 10 м он значительно выше — 73%. В среднем за сезон биомасса диатомовых водорослей убывает на 7,5%, на каждый метр глубины. Для сообщества диатомей характерно преобладание особей размерами от 10 до 40 мкм. От зимы к лету и осени в микрофитобентосе залива происходит уменьшение доли крупнопанцирных особей. Сезонное развитие микроводорослей имеет закономерный характер и определяется динамикой гидрологических и гидрохимических условий в прибрежной зоне моря
