Securing internet of things data using blockchain technology

Internet of things is fast growing sphere of information technologies. Every year new studies can be found describing solutions and incorporation of new technologies. Although improvements in the sphere are fast, it is still haunted by lots of problems. One of the major holes in the system is its security. When talking about everyday home use, low power consumption might be more important, but when considering business or laboratory use, where data is the money, security becomes a big issue. To counter these issues, wide range of different implementations is used, ranging from usage of different communication or authentication protocols to data encryption. Lately blockchain technology has been on the rise. It started with digital currency, but soon found its way into other implementations. One such implementation is security. The goal of this work is to analyze blockchain technology usage in the internet of things network aiming to increase its security. To reach the goal system of the internet of things integrated with the blockchain had to be designed and implemented. Because of its modular architecture and versatility Hyperledger Fabric was chosen as a blockchain of the system. It was soon found that developer claims about Fabric security are true. A series of experiments on Fabric throughput and latency show that simple implementation consisting of 2 organizations is enough to satisfy the needs of small internet of things network and because of the Hyperledger Fabrics modular approach, this network can be easily extended
