Group music therapy and emorional well-being in Parkinson´s disease. Intervention proposal

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder in Spain. It is characterized by the loss of neurons in the substantia nigra, causing a dopamine deficiency. Movement control is impaired, causing the main symptoms, rigidity and tremor at rest. Music therapy has been shown to be effective in improving gait, voice, and speech. Although the psychological and social aspects are very present, their study has received less attention. Social isolation is common among people affected by PD. A group intervention proposal is presented, based on Pacchetti et al. (2000), Bentz (2011) and Wigram (2005), aimed at work in the socio-emotional field. It is intended to improve emotional well-being and enhance social relationships to reduce depressive symptoms and improve mood. An evaluation system is proposed through observation and standardized tests. The proposal aims to provide more knowledge in our language about PD and its treatment through music therapy.La enfermedad de Parkinson (EP) es el segundo trastorno neurodegenerativo con mayor prevalencia en España. Se caracteriza por la pérdida de neuronas de la sustancia negra, provocando un déficit de dopamina. El control del movimiento se ve alterado, originando los síntomas principales, rigidez y temblor en reposo. La musicoterapia ha demostrado ser eficaz para mejorar la marcha, la voz y el habla. A pesar de que los aspectos psicológicos y sociales están muy presentes, su estudio ha recibido menor atención. El aislamiento social es común entre las personas afectadas por EP. Se presenta una propuesta de intervención grupal, basada en Pacchetti et al. (2000), Bentz (2011) y Wigram (2005), dirigida al trabajo del ámbito socioemocional. Se pretende mejorar el bienestar emocional y potenciar las relaciones sociales para reducir síntomas depresivos y mejorar el estado de ánimo. Se plantea un sistema de evaluación mediante observación y pruebas estandarizadas. La propuesta pretende aportar más conocimiento en nuestro idioma sobre la EP y su tratamiento a través de la musicoterapia
