This paper aims to analyse the role of death in Gioconda Belli’s narrative. In fact, the Nicaraguan author has written eight novels in most of which death appears as a central axis of the intrigue. Using a methodology based on the thematic criticism of the Geneva School, we analysed some immanent aspects as well as the socio-historical context in which the novels were written. Thus, this study highlights a rather optimistic conception of death, inherited from pre-Hispanic culture, which imagined this universal phenomenon as a stage in the cycle of life, a mere transformation.
