Uloga indeksa ljudskog razvoja (HDI) u evaluaciji ekonomskog razvoja

In addition to the common economic growth and development and indicators, this paper intended to go a step forward and find some additional criteria for the evaluation of the formerly stated objectives. One additional indicator is the human development index (in further text abbreviated as HDI). This paper provides an overview of what is it and why is it important. The objective of the paper is to acquire basic theoretical knowledge before getting into details. A Basic HDI overview is introduced as the first chapter. After that there is an overview of global dimensions of HDI and what are they about. Afterward, each of their indicators is discussed with tables containing relevant data. In the third chapter, each of the indexes is discussed specifically and in the end a conclusion on why HDI matters. Since 1990 the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has published an annual Human Development Report, within the same way because the World Bank publishes a World Development Report. Both reports include a ranking of all countries according to their "level of development". Whereas the World Development Report uses per capita income because the indicator for development, the UNDP has devised a replacement indicator, the human development index (HDI). A direct comparison of the two country rankings shows substantial differences for a variety of countries. The HDI, therefore, calls into question the use of per capita income because of the dominant development indicator. Human development is defined as a process of enlarging people's choices and relates to economic, political, social, and cultural fields. The concept is universally applicable to both developing and industrial countries. There is also an overview of additional indicators not directly connected to HDI to get a wider perspective and add to the basic theory and methods. HDI also has certain issues which are also presented along with appropriate adjustment to be comparable with economies having discrepancies between HDI factors, the crucial one being the income level
