We have studied fragments of roman paintings from two different sites which are situated near together in the ancient centre of Poitiers (Saint Stanislas College and Carmes Street). The two sets were found in infilled rooms of houses heated by hypocausts. Both paintings are representative of a “wall paper pattern” type of decoration comprised of a double squared composition, straight and oblique and they seem to be very similar. The first consists of a diagonal grid of schematic garlands, with circles at the intersections ; peacock feathers underline the straight squaring.
