Most of the Strigiformes from Quercy belong to the genus Necrobyas, previously known only by tibiotarsi and tarsometatarsi. The revision of the whole material made it possible to find the other elements of the pectoral girdle and limbs of this genus. These elements share many similarities with the family Tytonidae. Most of them are nearer to Tytoninae, but the distal part of the tibiotarsus is more similar to Phodilinae. Necrobyas represents a kind of owl that is not very different from the recent Tyto, but with a shorter and heavier tarsometatarsus. In this genus, the succession of four species, N. rossignoli, N. harpax, N. edwardsi, and N. arvernensis, from the Upper Eocene to the Lower Miocene, can be observed. The general trend in this ...
