Lyme disease in horses : clinical and diagnosis challenges Lyme disease, caused by the bacterial spirochete Borrelia, is still controversial in horses. Many non specific clinical signs have been attributed to this disease (fatigue, lameness, behavioral changes, hyperesthesia, muscle tenderness, fever…) but they have never been reproduced experimentally. The exact symptomatology during natural infection is poorly documented, only few clinical cases of three rare syndromes have been reported (uveitis, neuroborreliosis and Borrelia-associated cutaneous pseudolymphoma).
