Human consciousness, animal consciousness. While vigilance is a notion well-accepted by neuroscientists, consciousness which necessarily involves mental subjectivity may often be rejected whenever animals are concerned. In this brief review and against this attitude, we managed to discuss on consciousness, precisely including animals. Based on Ned Block’s model, we describe some classical divisions of human consciousness, distinguishing primary consciousness, subdivided into phenomenal and operational, and auto-consciousness (or metaconsciousness), also with two subdivisions, reflexive and auto-consciousness.
