The makings of a health crisis. The past few years have seen several “virtual” health crises, predicted and highly mediatised, but victimless calamities, as if health issues now came far behind other considerations, focusing more on media and emotions than on medical and scientific data. Issues such as the Chernobyl nuclear fallout in France, vaccination against hepatitis B or H1N1 influenza, genetically modified organisms, pesticides or mobile phones all follow the same scenario where science is hardly heard, drowned in emotional speeches and questions which it could never answer.
