State of aquaculture in France. Aquaculture is a traditional activity in France, which is still present within the 3 main producers in Europe, with an average annual production of 240000 tones. This production is mainly due to traditional products, such as oysters and mussels in marine waters and salmonids in freshwaters. If France was among the 10 top producers of the world during the 70’s, and even if it became an important consumer of aquatic products (35kg/inh./yr), its production is remaining quite stable during the last 10 years.
