L’écrit et l’image dans l’album photographique contemporain ou le retour de la forme album

One can observe, between the 2000s and the 2010s, the revival of the photographic album as a means of artistic expression. This specific form borrows from the private album -in its precarious and experimental character, its play between writing and image, and the brute materiality of its medium. In many ways, it seems as though we are witnessing a return of the photo/text medium common in the 1970s, a practice that was supported by conceptual approaches. If the intertwining of text and image in the 1970s served as a means of theorizing the photographic medium itself, however, recent approaches to photographic albums instead appear to abandon theory towards a more aesthetic and playful use of the photo/ text medium.On constate, dans les années 2000-2010, un renouveau d’intérêt des artistes pour la forme album. Ce mode d’expression artistique emprunte à l’album privé son caractère précaire et expérimental, le jeu entre l’écrit et l’image, la matérialité brute du médium. A tous ces point de vue, il semble que l’on observe un retour du médium photo/texte tel qu’il s’était répandu dans les années 1970, porté par une démarche conceptuelle. Mais si le jeu du texte et de l’image servait, dans les années 1970, à théoriser le médium photographique, les exemples récents de recours à la forme album semblent abandonner l’injonction théorique au profit d’un rapport plus esthétique et ludique au médium photo/ texte.Joschke Christian.
