Mass Production of Sacred Images : The Tsha tshas of the Tibetan World Made using molds, tsha tshas are clay images produced in large quantities that depict almost all representations from the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon either in relief or in the round,. They are typically made by Buddhist followers to generate merit and to purify negative deeds in order to progress along the path to enlightenment. By examining the process of making tsha tshas, this paper focuses on and analyzes the ritual procedures by which these images are progressively sacralized by means of ritual gestures, visualizations, consecratory deposits, and reciting effective formulas.
