The article deals with the techniques of body decorations, direct or indirect, permanent or shortlived, used by the inhabitants of the South East of Nigeria : scarification, body paint, hair. — dress and hair — shaving and/or ornaments made from material. Performed for important ceremonies in the life of a person or a group, ornamentation leads to a real change in the physical appearance, so that the message carried by symbolical patterns can be transmitted to the rest of the community.
