Histoire du costume : quelques observations méthodologiques

Fifty years after the criticism of Barthes reproaching historians with giving only dress inventories, it is not useless to question anew the methods of the history of dress. The renewal of human sciences in the sixties, from linguistics to semiology, not forgetting anthropology and psychoanalysis, opened the way to new studies devoted to contemporary dress phenomena and, in particular, fashion phenomena. But the study of old costumes, faithful to its initial project of reconstitution, has hardly investigated the act of dressing itself, so that a real anthropology of the dressed body is absent for these periods.Blanc Odile.
