The Death of Hippolyte on an unedited Apulian Vase. Today, very few painted Greek ceramic vases illustrate the death of Hippolytus, Theseus’s son. All of them are Italiot artefacts, from Southern Italy and Sicilian workshops. The aim of this article is to study a recently discovered scene. On one of the sides of a calix-shaped krater, a quadriga driven by Hippolytus and one of the Erinnyes, an infernal spirit well known to Italiot painters, encircles a bull whose importance is emphasied by the polychromy.
