Hans Hartung, peintre cubiste ?

V. Moret-Martingay : Hans Hartung, Cubist Painter ? Descriptions such as «lyrical abstraction» or «abstract expressionism» are too vague and restrictive, and also fail to account for Hartung’s years of maturation and the different sources of his inspiration. The years 1926-1934 were particularly important for him. His discovery of French painting at the Universal Exhibition in Dresden (1926) was followed by numerous stays in Paris, the South of France, and Norway. The painter started using Cubist technique and renewed his art through the play of interlocking surfaces in imaginary articulations, an interest in the Golden Number, a refinement of color, and a light graphic technique.
