Shallow doubly curved translational shells are efficient and aesthetically attractive structures and as such are being used with increasing frequency in roof construction. Due to the realization that the membrane or momentless" theory is not always applicable, especially in the case of hyperbolic paraboloids bounded by characteristics, the bending theory of this type of shell has received a great deal of attention in recent years (28, 46, 39, 4, 9, 17).The Office of Naval Research Department Of The Navy.
