Narrativas potenciais : experimentações em ilustração para livros de imagens a partir do Método OuBaPo

This thesis uses the creative guidelines conceived by the OuBaPo group - an acronym for Ouvroir de Bande Dessinée Potentielle [Potential Comics Workshop] to build a method to create visual narratives for Illustrated Books that do not repeat literally the texto on which they are based. This method uses self-imposed restrictions and rules to the creation process and, thus, the thesis offers a reflection on the narrative image usually associated with the Illustrated Book derived from these experiences. The investigations about illustrated books from theorists like Maria Nikolajeva and Carole Scott, Sophie Van der Linden and Gabriela Sotto Mayor help to build a definition of this object, in addition to contributing to its analysis in order to establish the structural components of illustration forms that appear in Picturebooks that will integrate the proposed method. Also, the thesis analyzes conceptual and structural aspects that define the Artist's Book to add another set of elements to be used in adapting the concepts of the OuBaPo group. After establishing the adaptation and way of application of the exercises that were borrowed from OuBaPo, these exercises are reinterpreted in the production of Picturebooks. For this purpose, the same story has been used– a folkloric tale collected by Luís da Câmara Cascudo, from the book Contos Tradicionais do Brasil - in order to emphasize the differences in the results, which, in turn, aim to assess the relevance and use of the method or possible advantages of its use. This material constitutes the visual practical component of the current investigation and its completeness is presented in a complementary appendix as essential part of this thesis
