Ostreopsis cf. ovata is a benthic and toxic dinoflagellate spreading into temperate areas, as in the Mediterranean Sea since 2005, probably in relation to the global changes. This dinoflagellate undergoes surveillance programs as its proliferation can induce death of marine organisms and cause sanitary illness by inhalation or skin contact. The link with ovatoxins (OVTX) production, analogues of the palytoxin (PLTX), has been suggested but not confirmed yet because of the lack of pure OVTX for toxicological studies. A field study at Villefranche-sur-Mer allowed us to confirm the advantage of using artificial substrates to sample of O. cf. ovata and to show that OVTX quota followed the bloom dynamic. A significant effect of the macroalgal su...
