Migrant status and ethnic minority position have been associated to an increased risk of psychosis in many European countries in the last decades. A variation of this risk is observed in migrants and their descendants, across countries and different ethnic groups. Findings suggest a modulation of this risk by cumulative individual and environmental psycho-social adversity experienced during the migration process and in the host country, such as trauma, discrimination, isolation, inequalities in the access to the welfare and health system, employment, housing and regular status.
