A recently-discovered mosaic in Brindisi contains what is undoubtedly a comic scene. Although badly damaged, it can be shown to have presented what was understood in antiquity as the key moment of Menander’s Samia, and it demands our reconsideration of the plot of that fragmentary play.Richard Gree
