This thesis is comprised of nine chapters: a general thesis introduction (Chapter 1), a review of the literature (Chapter 2), two published research articles (Chapters 3 and 4), four unpublished research manuscripts (Chapters 5, 6, 7 and 8) and a final general discussion (Chapter 9). A schematic overview of the thesis structure is presented in Figure 1.2. Chapter 3 is a published research and methodology article describing a method for small-scale rapid fractionation of seed mucilage (Cowley et al. 2020, Plant Methods, 16:20).
