De ce fait, l'origine de la sismicité est plus difficile à comprendre que dans les régions actives localisées le long des limites de plaques. De plus, les données sismiques disponibles (séismes, accumulation des contraintes dans le sol, failles, mécanismes au foyer, etc.) y sont moins nombreuses.
