The history of racism and prejudice in the United States is not limited to segregation, slavery, and discrimination. Medical and scientific racism continue to disproportionately affect Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). BIPOC have been used for scientific advancement without full disclosure of potential harm or adequate compensation. Scientists and medical providers have dehumanized minority individuals by disrespecting their autonomy and targeting vulnerable populations.
