033-03: Above the Bed in the Breaks of Sand Creek

This black and white photograph shows the bed in the breaks of Sand Creek. A dry wash composes over three-quarters of the picture. At the top of the bed, a curved ridge outlines the wash. In this area of lower elevation, darker rocks and stones are scattered throughout. This area was formed from water drainage that eroded the landscape. Channels where water once ran are visible in the bottom left corner on a large bed of rock. This erosion also exposed various rocks and small fossils. The land surrounding the wash is barren. Almost no plant life is present beyond shrub brush. Off in the distance, large formations are visible just below a cloud-filled sky.
