Morpheme is the smallest grammatical unit that has meaning. Traditional grammar does not recognize morpheme concepts or terms because morphemes are not syntactic units, and not all morphemes have philosophical meanings. The concept of morphemes was only introduced by structuralists at the beginning of the twentieth century. To determine whether a unit of form is morpheme or not, we must compare the form in its presence with other forms. If this form turns out to be repeated in other forms, then that form is a morpheme.
