As the demands on healthcare providers increase with the pervasiveness of technology in healthcare settings, burnout is a reality for 75% of general surgery residents. Residents spend over half of their workday interacting with technology, however, there exists a significant gap in literature at the intersection of tasks and technology in relation to burnout for general surgery residents. Understanding the contributing factors to burnout is essential, as there are downstream effects on physician wellness and efficiency, as well as patient safety and quality of care.
