While graphic novels have been a leading resource in diverse representations for many years, stereotypes and tropes of disabilities in literature and media remain and have contributed to misrepresentations that continue to damage those in the disabled community. Through #OwnVoices authors, graphic novels can be a place for accurate representations of disabled people and allow a young person to see a reflection of themselves in these characters. Misrepresentations are often from authors who write stories about diverse characters without being a part of the diverse community.
