Incivility plagues nursing in academia and the clinical setting. Nursing students and novice nurses are particularly vulnerable to this type of lateral violence. Current research is primarily focused on recommendations to educate students on how to mitigate incivility utilizing professional behavior. Students have an increased likelihood of developing professional identity and incivility mitigation skills when they have a strong sense of relatedness and community in the learning environment.
