This research takes place in the context of initial teacher training in French-speaking Belgium. More precisely, it focuses on the teaching/learning of spelling in the first year of the bachelor's degree "Primary Teacher". In the pedagogical literature, there is a relative consensus that integrating metacognitive approaches to purely formal language teaching would be beneficial. This doctoral dissertation analyzes the effects of a device based both on evidence from the literature and on the findings of two pre-experiments in an ecological context.
