This research work focuses on the synthesis of molybdenum nitrides and carbides (Mo2N, Mo5N6, Mo2C) for the heterogeneous catalysis of the Water-Gas Shift reaction: CO + H2O --> CO2 + H2. This work is part of a collaboration between the University of Rennes 1, CNRS, Saint-Gobain Research Provence and NIMS-LINK (Japan). An original synthetic route using transition metal cluster compounds has been developed. The use of this new range of precursors allows obtaining molybdenum nitrides and carbides with higher specific surface areas and smaller particle sizes than the reference compounds.
