Replacing noble metal (Pd, Pt, Au) catalysts with inexpensive, environmentally harmless, active, selective, and stable substitutes is a big challenge for the chemical industry. Several aluminium-based complex intermetallic compounds have shown promises for alkynes and alkenes hydrogenation reactions, which are of interest in the chemical industry. It is the case for Al5Co2, Al13Co4 and Al13Fe4 quasicrystalline approximants.
