Multiferroic and/or magnetoelectric compounds have interesting physical properties which can provide many applications, including spintronics for the storage of information. These compounds have ferroelectric and/or ferromagnetic properties which in some cases allow magnetoelectric coupling. For ferroelectric properties to appear, the crystallographic structure of the compound must to be non-centrosymmetric for dipole moments to appear. In type I multiferroic compounds, the non-centrosymmetry may be due to the presence of d0 cations (Ti4 +, W6 +) or also to the presence of cations with stereochemically active free pair (Bi3 +, Sb3 +, Te4 +, Se4 +).
