The Timbuktu manuscripts are a representative sample of West African manuscripts written in Arabic. Since 2000, they are at the center of digitization programs raising numerous scientific obstacles that are of interest to different professional communities. The digital archiving of West African manuscripts written in Arabic has clear advantages, it raises issues related to their nature and their own characteristics unknown because they are unexplored. There is a need to know their particularities, the sociohistorical contest that produced them, their current conditions (environment, means), their uses, the practices related to these resources and as many subjects which constitute the very soul of the documents and which make these documents...
