Faire de l’habitat un espace commun : le travail d’appropriation habitante dans les habitats participatifs

The thesis presented in this study is that « living differently » in the way co-housing doesreflects on the pooling of the environment, which in itself is a media that allows to work on theappropriation by the inhabitants. This work is plural and complex. The aim is to turn real estateprojects into political projects, and to live, according to the principles of the common. This pooling of the environment puts the inhabitants to trial, both as individuals and as a group. It compels them to their singularities, and, in fine, to their capacity to inhabit a place.In return, this ability to inhabit finds itself being reinforced : shared living does not only mean « tolive differently », but also « to live more ».On a theoretical level, the study founds itself on sociology of the environment (Segaud, Fijalkow),and sociology of the common (Ostrom, Dardot and Laval), Hannah Arendt's philosophy andpragmatic sociology (Brevigleri, Thévenot).On an empirical level, the study is based on a qualitative investigation that took place between 2014and 2014 among 16 co-housings places located in the West of France, built from the 1970s to the2010sLa thèse défendue dans cette recherche est que les manières d’« habiter autrement » dans un habitat participatif constituent un travail de mise en commun de l’habitat, et que ce travail du commun devient lui-même un support qui permet de travailler l’appropriation habitante. Ce travail est pluriel et complexe, car il s’agit de faire des habitats des projets immobiliers, politiques et d’habiter, et un travail sur la propriété. Chacune de ces dimensions sont travaillés selon les principes du commun. Cette mise en commun de l’habitat met à l’épreuve les habitants, aussi bien en termes de groupes que d’individus, elle les engage dans leurs singularités et, in fine, dans leurs capacités à habiter. En retour, cette capacité se trouve renforcée : les manières d’habiter en commun ne renvoient pas seulement à « habiter autrement » mais aussi à « habiter plus ». Au niveau théorique, l’étude se base principalement sur de la sociologie de l’habitat (Segaud, Fijalkow), de la sociologie du commun (Ostrom, Dardot et Laval), la philosophie d’Hannah Arendt et le cadre théorique de la sociologie des épreuves (Breviglieri, Thévenot). Au niveau empirique, l’étude repose sur une enquête qualitative menée entre 2014 et 2018 auprès de16 habitats participatifs de l’Ouest de la France construits sur la période des années 1970 aux années 2010
