In front of the increasing prevalence of obesity and its associated pathologies, the research in new therapeutic targets represents a major public health challenge. In this context, the laboratory has highlighted a new function, intestinal neoglucogenesis (IGN), which positively controls energy and carbohydrate homeostasis via the induction of the «portal glucose signal». In particular, the laboratory has shown that the induction of IGN plays a key role in the beneficial effects induced by fiber- or protein-enriched diet, or by bypass surgery. IGN-dependent metabolic benefits include: satiety, body weight and fat mass reduction, improvement in glycaemic control and insulin sensitivity, particularly in the liver.
