The prediction of the durability of structures is strongly linked to the quality of the prediction of degradation due to cracking of cementitious materials. However, cracking appears from the formation of the solid skeleton and continues through the desiccation shrinkage, influencing the mechanical behavior and the water transfers. At the microscopic scale, the permeability is directly related to the characteristics of the cracks such as their spacing, their length, their opening or their tortuosity. At the macroscopic scale, the degradation of the material impacts the stiffness, the stress distribution and the bearing capacity.
