This thesis provides the first description of Nalögo, a language spoken on Santa Cruz Island (Temotu Province, Solomon Islands). Nalögo is an Oceanic language belonging to the Reefs-Santa Cruz (RSC) group. This thesis is based on primary data collected by the author in the villages of Nea and Nemboi during approximately six months of fieldwork. RSC languages are regarded as ‘aberrant’ within the Oceanic family. Their origins have been debated for years before being finally classified as belonging to the Austronesian family. RSC languages show some unusual grammatical features, especially in terms of clausal structure.
