Alpha-hemolysin is a protein nanopore which allows the transport of molecules or ions through a lipid bilayer. This protein is commonly used for translocation experiments through a nanopore and enables the passage of nucleic acids, such as DNA, in single-stranded form. Double-stranded DNA sequences can therefore be separated by transport through an alpha-hemolysin pore. However, the opening mechanism of these molecules is still questionable. Molecular dynamics modelling could provide details of this process. However, classical all-atom force fields cannot achieve sufficient simulation times to observe the translocation of a DNA molecule.
