Hubungan Obesitas Dengan Kadar Asam Urat Pada Mahasiswa Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta

Hyperuricemia in college students has a high prevalence. One of the factors that cause high uric acid levels is obesity. Someone who is obese has an increased release of free fatty acids into the circulation which then causes insulin resistance. Hyperinsulinemia states an increase in uric acid reabsorption which then causes hyperuricemia. This study aimed to determine correlation between obesity and uric acid levels in students Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. From the cross-sectional study, the sample was selected from 51 students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (25 male and 26 female) using convenience sampling method. Obesity was measured by Body Mass Index and uric acid levels were measured by POCT (Point Of Care Testing) using an electrode - based biosensor method. To figure out the correlation between obesity and uric acid levels, the Rank Spearman Test was applied in this study. In the obese sample who had normal uric acid levels as much as 70.6% and hyperuricemia as much as 29.4%. The results of the analysis of the correlation between obesity and uric acid levels obtained p value = 0.265 (p>0.05). There was no correlation between obesity and uric acid levels in students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta
